The FHSD Board of Education welcomed former Independence Elementary student and current Bryan Middle School sixth grader Ava Mollica as the student representative for the February Board Meeting. Mollica is well-known in both schools for her kindness, bright smile, and vibrant personality.

Mollica’s positive energy can light up any classroom. “Ava is just so spunky and full of life,” says her English teacher Amanda Bond. “It brings a smile to my face every day that I walk into my third hour class. She never fails to make me laugh or brighten up my day.”

Mollica is a true Bryan Middle Patriot and has high expectations for her responsibility, respect, kindness, and honesty. Mollica’s math teacher experienced just how special this sixth grader is when she was having a difficult time at school. Ava could sense her teacher was having a bad day without her saying a word. At the end of class, Ava went up to the teacher, gave her a hug and said “I hope your day gets better.”

Mollica’s positivity is evident in her interactions with others, and it is also evident in her schoolwork. She is a motivated learner willing to contribute to and lead discussions. She advocates for herself, demonstrates great organizational skills, and is always prepared for class. “Ava will give you nothing short of her best effort every day,” says Bond. Her approach to schoolwork makes her a great role model for others. Mollica’s geography teacher shared that her favorite thing about the lively sixth grader is her willingness to communicate and ask for additional help if necessary.

Outside of the classroom, Mollica balances a demanding competitive cheerleading schedule and a love of golf in her free time. As far as next year, Mollica plans to bring her contagious personality to FHHS as a new Viking. Whether she is participating in a class discussion at Bryan or walking the halls of FHHS for the first time, FHSD will always be a brighter place because of her presence.
