Aaron Pearson from Bryan Middle School Nominated for National LifeChanger of the Year Award

Aaron Pearson, a teacher at Bryan Middle School, has been nominated for the 2018-19 LifeChanger of the Year Award. A Spectra teacher who works with students in the District’s gifted program, Pearson was nominated by students for his continuing support and for creating a comfortable and stimulating classroom environment. “Before I came to his class, I was shy in public and didn’t feel needed,” one of his nominators said. “He showed us that it’s okay to be ourselves and that we are perfect just the way we are.”

Whether it’s by playing music or piloting innovative programs to bring technology into the classroom, Pearson uniquely connects with his students and helps them understand the material by making learning fun. “I love my job because of the relationships I build with the students and that I can impact their lives in a way that will help them be successful in life,” said Pearson. “Reading what the nominating students wrote and all of the comments on the nomination page warms my heart and helps validate what I do.”

Principal Dr. Suzanne Leake understands the impact the former Bryan Teacher of the Year has on students. “Mr. Pearson’s success is rooted in the relationships he builds with students. He ignites their imagination and challenges them to be their personal best. His classroom encourages teamwork, critical thinking, and innovation. Mr. Pearson welcomes the challenge to provide more than just academic enrichment. He is definitely committed to the well-being of his students both inside and outside the classroom.”

One of Pearson’s greatest strengths is his ability to build close relationships with students and serve as a mentor. In this role, he’s able to offer guidance and support, as he did when one of his nominators was struggling. "He was the only one who caught on and got help for me right away," the nominator said. "To this day, he still looks out for me. Even when his students graduate from his class, he makes it known that he is still there for them whenever they need him. My life has been forever changed by Mr. Pearson. He has done the same exact thing for hundreds of other students year after year. There is no one more deserving of this title than him.”
